Passengers can now benefit from step-free access to both platforms at Dumfries Station, marking the end of a 9-month project to improve accessibility.
Following final inspections, the new lifts were brought into service and opened to the public. Previous to this, the new footbridge structure was installed using a 500-tonne crane and a 110-tonne crane to lift it into place.
“A massive thank you and well done to everyone involved from Story, working alongside Network Rail, ScotRail, and our supply chain, who contributed to the successful completion of this project.
We are proud to have played a key role in delivering this transformative work that will benefit passengers at Dumfries Station, our 13th Access for All scheme for Scotland’s Railway.”
Alongside the engineering works, it was rewarding to collaborate with the local community during the project through volunteering and STEM sessions and to witness the very first passengers using the lifts.”
