Over the last three years, Story Contracting have supported a partnership between Scotland’s Railway and primary schools across the region, by collaborating with Network Rail on a bike refurbishment initiative for young children.
The Story team recently delivered 86 refurbished bikes and donated safety equipment, such as bike lights, helmets and high visibility belts to Stenhouse Primary School – Edinburgh, Keir Hardie Memorial School – Motherwell, and Letham Primary School – Perth. Pupils at all three schools also received a rail safety talk to learn more about the dangers of the railway, with all the schools being so close to the railway track.
Stephen Crosbie, Head of Maintenance Delivery – Scotland’s Railway, said: “It’s great to have Story Contracting’s support with the Scotland’s Railway school partnership initiative. Not only have they provided logistical support transporting reconditioned bikes to all our partner schools, but they have supplied safety accessories for each of the bikes. They are a key partner in this initiative and their enthusiasm and commitment will only enhance on the success so far delivered.”
Graeme McInnes, Engineering Director – Story Contracting said: “To be part of this year’s partnership launch with all three primary schools was not only highly rewarding but also inspiring. As an organisation that holds ‘family’ as a core value, witnessing first-hand the positive impact we can have on the community when we collaborate as Scotland’s Railway is fantastic.”
