UAS Accountable Manager
Gerald joined Story in April 2021 in our Operations team, but took on the role of the Story Drones UAS Manager in late 2023. Gerald ensures the company complies with the CAA Operational Authority, all equipment remains flight worthy and that all flights are planned safely and documented. Once all the flights are complete Gerald collates the data and begins the processing, this ranges from simple photo or video editing to the more complex 3D model surveys.
“The use of drone technology is increasingly beneficial to our jobs as it allows digital data to be collected on a vast scale at a fraction of the time conventional techniques would take, therefore allowing sites to be surveyed far quicker and more safely as we no longer need to walk the full site with a GPS.”
Site Engineer
Jake started with Story August 2018 as an Apprentice Engineer, over the years he has completed his degree leaving him a fully qualified Engineer. As a Site Engineer, Jake is responsible for the setting out and surveying on site, as well as liaising with clients, designers and sub-contractors and recording all site activities through as-built surveys.
“Drones can greatly expand the engineering teams’ capabilities at Story. They can allow us to carry out surveys over very large areas, creating realistic 3D models in a fraction of the time it would normally take, which improves efficiency and reduces cost. They also extend the services we can offer to future clients by sharing real-time aerial views of projects and improving our communication.”
Project Agent
Darren is a member of our Operational team, joining us back in 2019, supporting the delivery of projects by collating and providing all the correct site information, liaising with clients and reporting on the progress of the works.
“Not only do aerial shots of the works look great when it comes to progress photographs for a project, drones can be very beneficial in assisting with tendering for works, giving full scans of areas prior to works commencing. With technology, improving my skills as a drone pilot will also improve meaning I can offer a greater level of support to projects.”
Senior Digital & Communications Executive
Stu joined the Communications & Engagement team 2016, progressing through different roles to his current position as Senior Digital & Communications Executive. He supports the whole business with graphic and video design support, as well as being the Communications Business Partner for both our Construction and Plant divisions.
“Having high quality imagery of our projects plays a big part in helping us showcase what we do as a company. We have traditionally used external media companies to capture drone images and footage of our works, but being able to do this in-house allows us to capture more of the great work our teams are doing, that we might not have been able to photograph previously.”
Senior Construction Manager
Darren started with Story in the summer of 2015, as part of the operations team involved in growing Story Contracting up in Scotland. Darren’s role involves a variety of activities, from visiting sites across Scotland, to attending client meetings and driving safety culture.
“I have been involved with drones for almost 15 years, the way they have developed has been incredible, as this evolution continues the possibilities are endless, from photography and videography, to surveying and data gathering.”
