Story Contracting, on behalf of Network Rail, worked over the Easter weekend to help deliver a £4m bridge replacement in the heart of Sutton Coldfield.
The job involved a 100 hour blockade to remove and replace CBR2/32 Intersection Bridge, a railway bridge which allows freight to pass over the passenger lines behind Sutton Coldfield College.
Alex O’Donovan, Scheme Project Manager in Story’s Rail division said: “A tremendous effort from all involved to deliver this challenging scheme in the middle of Sutton Coldfield safely and on time to keep trains moving on this important freight route over the cross city line.”
Denise Wetton, Network Rail’s Central Route Director said : “Removing and replacing this railway bridge over just four days was a hugely ambitious task and I’d like to pay tribute to the dozens of engineers involved who worked around the clock to make sure trains could run as normal again.”
