THE PROJECT
The Levenmouth Reconnect Project was a large infrastructure initiative aimed at improving transport links, social outcomes, and economic opportunities in the Levenmouth area of Fife, Scotland. The project primarily focused on the re-establishment of a rail connection to Leven, a town that had been without direct rail services since the closure of its station in 1969. Story Contracting acted as Principal contractor for the safe delivery of the project and the other contractors working on the project.
A topographical survey was required to inform ground levels prior to our designers providing a temporary works crane pad design.
Story drones used LIDAR techniques to provide a fast and accurate 3D model generated from overlapping images and laser beams which were processed to create a colourised point cloud which was aligned to OSGB36 using a number of ground control points. Once the data was processed the 3D model generated georeferenced Orthophotos, Contour maps and Digital Elevation models. These were exported in CAD format for use by the design team.
The use of Story Drones provided significant efficiencies to the project, with all data collected in less than one hour and processing completed within 24 hours.
