This week Story Contracting are celebrating National Apprenticeship Week.
As part of Story’s ongoing commitment to the development of future talent, the company offers a range of opportunities for apprentices to join the team in a variety of different roles.
Thank you to everyone who invests their time in our apprentice colleagues; teaching, mentoring and developing them. Let’s hear from our people about their experience and thoughts on apprenticeships:
“I didn’t take the traditional academic route and instead started my career as an apprentice. I strongly believe that if my only option had been through the degree route, I would not have known what was available and where my future could go. The importance of industry experience alongside qualifications, particularly in this industry, is critical.”
Andy Joy, CEO
“I started my apprenticeship with Story in September 2023; I’m enjoying my role and the team I work with. I am on day release to go to college once a week, but I find being hands-on in the workshop is the best learning method for me to pick up the practical skills I need.”
Dominic Allen, Apprentice Fitter
“By offering apprenticeships, it means the industry doesn’t lose out on potential talent that may be put off by the traditional route. Working with apprentices helps me to develop myself and my skills as a line manager/mentor.”
Kim Middleton, Scheme Project Manager
“At the start of my career, I switched to an apprenticeship as it offered me more educational support and structure, and the chance to get actively involved in the railway sooner. The opportunities within the industry are endless and with so many experienced individuals working around you it’s a great place to start at a young age.”
