In 2021, both Tom Murray and Eliza Wright joined Story as Trainee Buyers at our head office in Carlisle.
Reflecting upon their career journey, they answered some questions about their experiences so far:
Eliza:
What role are you currently in?
I am currently working as a Trainee Buyer for the North West region, and supporting the wider Procurement team across the business.
What attracted you to the role?
I initially applied for a different role at Story, however when I went for the interviews they thought I was more suited to the Buying role due to my organisation and social skills.
What is your favourite part of your role?
What I enjoy most about my role is that I get to meet and interact with new people often, as we work with our supply chain and sub-contractors.
Tom:
What role are you currently in?
I am a currently a Buyer after completing my traineeship. I am responsible for the procurement of materials and works packages required on a project, ensuring that they are procured in line with the specification and budget.
What attracted you to the role?
I always had an interest in a purchasing role, and when the opportunity to join Story came up I knew I had to go for it. As a local business, I knew their reputation for taking on and developing trainees.
What is your favourite part of your role?
My favourite part of my role is that no two days are the same. With the range of projects we work on, there are always new challenges to face which makes everyday interesting.
