At the start of August, Story Contracting welcomed four Apprentices to the Plant division, where they will learn the skills necessary to attain their National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs).
Jon Kittoe, Owen McCrone, Jamie Osborne and Tom Hall have been kept busy with hands-on learning, undertaking various courses, health and safety exercises and contributing to Plant projects.
Jon and Owen, Apprentice Small Tools Fitters, have so far gained experience using mechanical and electrical equipment.
Jon said: “Before I joined Story I worked in a furniture removals business but I knew that wasn’t what I really wanted to do. This Apprenticeship has given me the opportunity to pursue a career in construction and work towards qualifications which will help me to move up in the industry.”
Carl Scott, Stores Manager, said: “Owen and Jon have settled in really well and have brought a different dynamic to the team. Their enthusiasm and willingness to listen and learn has been great to see and a credit to them both.”
Jamie Osborne and Tom Hall have also been learning the ropes as Apprentice Plant Fitters.
Chris Banks, Workshop Manager, said: “Jamie has become a part of the team quickly. He is really interested in all the different types of plant machinery we work on and is eager to learn.”
Similarly, Chris Scott, Mechanical Electrical Engineer, said: “Tom has been busy with the current refurb team on a few of our current builds. He’s showing some great promise already and has fitted in well within the team.”
The Apprenticeship demonstrates Story Contracting’s commitment to The 5% Club and investing in the next generation.
Whilst gaining valuable work experience at Story, the Apprentices will also study at Lakes College and Myerscough College to complete their Level 3 Engineering NVQ courses.
